Tweeting up a #bluekey Storm
Back in June, our Blue Key Champions came up with an idea. “What if several of us tweeted about the Blue Key campaign?” some of them asked. And they weren’t just talking about a tweet here and a tweet there, but a concerted effort to “flood” the Twitterverse with information about the Blue Key, as it were.
So the idea of a #bluekey “tweetathon” was born. Now, this isn’t a new concept, but we hadn’t tried it ourselves. We figured it couldn’t hurt, so we went ahead with the idea.
And what a great idea it was (thank you, Champions!). Our first tweetathon, which was held on June 13 from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. ET, drew a lot of curiosity, and better yet, a lot of people signed up for keys during the event. Mashable even featured it as a top Twitter campaign!
So we decided to do it again. Last month, September 21 saw our second tweetathon, and again, it made some waves. About a third of the keys purchased that week were because of the tweetathon, and our Champions did a wonderful job of holding down the fort. Betsy Decillis, in particular, cracked us up:
A tweetathon is a fun way of supporting the Blue Key campaign and giving refugees a voice. I mean, you get to talk to interesting people on Twitter, learn more about what refugees go through, and share creative ways of using your Blue Key with the Twitterverse:
So why not join us for our next tweetathon? It’s on Monday, October 24, which also happens to be United Nations Day. All you have to do is follow the #bluekey hashtag on Twitter whenever you can that day (our Champions will be tweeting consistently from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. ET), and join the conversation.
In particular, we’re thrilled that Roya Hosseini of the Khaled Hosseini Foundation, who joined us for our first tweetathon, will be coming back to remind us of how far just $5 can go in the refugee world.
So please do join us. It’s easy, it’s fun, and it could help someone you’ll probably never meet… but you’ll be infinitely better off for doing so.
